Spam-Points if there is no SPF Record?

Hi out there We got two customers (one is another ISP) pretending that they have observed, that Google, Sunrise and other Services have startet flagging their customer's emails as spam, because the sender domain has not SPF record. Not an 'non matching' SPF record, but the sender just dones not use SPF at all. From my point of view especialy an ISP should be very carefull with SPF. There are hundreds of customers using their email addresses via foreign SMTP Servers. So if you start using SPF als ISP you have to instruct your customers to use SMPT-Auth. Furthermore web based feeback forms and similar would not work anymore if the ip address of that web server is not published as valid sender. And not many mailers who do forward emails are SRS compliant. So what are your experiences out there? Has someone else observed some ISP having started penalizing emails from sender domains who don't use SPF? bluewin.ch internal blacklist

Hi all. Our mailserver is rejected by the bluewin.ch MX with reason "Connection not accepted from blacklisted IP address", but I found no entry in the usual blacklists. Can somebody from bluewin abuse team please contact me offlist? Problem already reported to abuse e-mail but no answer yet.

HVAC question

Hi there I am maybe a bit out of usual topics, but I am confident with the ability to hear some proper and useful advices as you guys work within IT room. I am planning on building a small server room, but before to call any professional to make a proper quotation, I am looking for some advices of HVAC cooling solutions and brands. I will want to cool about 15 kW of servers within 6 months and I except about maximum 50kW within two years. Are there any modularly HVAC systems that could be upgraded to deal with extra heat? Also as a rule of thumb what budget do you think I should plan for such system? I mean the HVAC unit only, not the work and all related work and operational costs. If you have brands or people to advice, please do not hesitate to send me a private message offline, any help appreciated. Eric

In my point of view, SPF is only useful in very special cases because the drawbacks are very wide spreaded and the benefit even small. Forcing SPF for cases where it doesn't fit is a very "interesting" step. Using SPF in a spam filter to give some minor positive weighting in the spam score is ok but to use it to flag spam? I can't imagine that somebody does that. It sounds very stupid to me. Regards Oli

Hi Guys Any idea where to find the find the ip address ranges that mobile operators use worldwide for data networks gprs, 3g, etc. ? Without having to query RIPE db for hours. Best clue gets a 6 packs ;) Cheers Reza

Anti-virus solution for Linux mail server

Hi there We're a small Swiss hosting provider. Currently we host over 4000 IMAP mail accounts on Debian Linux mail servers (Postfix/Amavis/Spamassassin/ClamAV/Cyrus). As anti-virus solution we are using ClamAV over Amavis (amavisd-new) at the SMTP level. We are looking for a more professional anti-virus solution and would like to add another anti-virus engine as primary scanner engine. Our favorite is Kaskpersky Anti-Virus for Mailservers but Kaskpersky does not seem to offer any affordable license that would match our business type (KAV for Linux Mail Server for 50(!!!) mail "addresses": CHF 2043/year). Their price model doesn't make any sense for our business. We are ready to pay up to CHF 1000/year for an anti-virus scan engine but not much more than that. ClamAV is not too bad, but the reaction time upon new threats has always been a bit faster in commercial anti-virus solutions. I don't want to start a flame war about this, it's just my personal experience during the last couple of years. What other solutions are small hosting providers using next to ClamAV?
