Hey all
A friend just told me that Cybernet told him there is a Switzerlandwide Internet Problem.
Does anybody know something?
Cheers
Michele

Hi everybody,
We've decided that we no longer have the resources to host our IRC
server irc.datacomm.ch / irc.span.ch, which is connected to IRCnet
(http://www.ircnet.com/).
Currently, we're the only swiss server for IRCnet.
We're looking for someone who is willing and able to run the IRC service
on a machine located here in Switzerland.
Please read here for the requirements of linking a new server:
http://www.ircnet.com/index.php?&p=2&mid=6&id=8
If you're interested please contact me offlist, thanks!
cheers,
- Fabian
The Swinog website has listed the dates for the meetings in 2010. The
one in April happens to fall on a Friday. Is this a mistake or intentional?

Hi there,
We're looking for small IP DSLAMs for G.SHDSL(.bis) and ADSL2+. We
need about 16-24 Ports in 1 Rack Unit (or a modular system), Ethernet
Uplink (GE / FE), dot1q, etc.
Does anyone know a suitable product that fits our requirements with a
good cost-performance ratio?
We are already using ZyXEL IES 1000 with modules and IES 2000 (which
are no longer sold by ZyXEL). The IES 1000 with SAM-1216-22 in
G.SHDSL.bis mode delivers just 16 Ports in 1 Unit (2 modules for 3900
CHF each) and is due to this to expensive. Also the IES5000 is to big
and expensive for our small PoPs.
Do you recommend the G.SHDSL.bis or should we stay with G.SHDSL (4096 per line)?
Thanks and best regards
Marco Fretz

Dear SwiNOG community,
# IMPORTANT: Read the WHOLE mail! Its important :-)
We're pleased to announce the next SwiNOG meeting. But before I go into
event details I need to explain a few changes here.
On 27th July 2009, the so far known as "The SwiNOG Core-Team" has
established the "SwiNOG Organisation" association. The goals of the
SwiNOG
Organisation is to organise and finance the SwiNOG events, run the
mailing-list, hold the domain and all the different resources the SwiNOG
community needs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
# Why did you make this move now? Didn't it work before ?
There are a few main reasons:
- So far we were always personally responsible of the event charges,
if a
sponsor would have failed to pay, we would have had to pay it ourselves.
- Simplification for sponsors, we can send them a legal invoice for the
sponsoring.
- End of the registration mess. The registration has been a problem for
SwiNOG events since a few years now. We will stop this mess by putting
in
place a regular registration process with in advance payment.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
# Can I be member of the association ?
Yes, you can be member of the association, but it doesn't make sense.
Members of the association organise the events, they have no benefit or
special conditions (yes, we also pay to join the event!). Additionally
we're
fully staffed and have no needs to expand. If we'll need more people,
we'll
let the community know.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
# Are you SwiNOG ?
No, we are not SwiNOG, YOU are the SwiNOG community. Its a little bit
like
RIPE and RIPE NCC (don't laugh :P). YOU are the community and we
organise
YOUR resources.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now lets see what changed in the event organisation.
Starting from SwiNOG 19 the following registration rules will apply:
- You need to register online in advance.
- There is an event fee of 50 CHF which includes the lunch.
- If we don't get your payment within 5 days you will get a warning by
email. If we still don't get your payment a few days later your
registration
will be dropped.
- Once we get your payment, you will receive a confirmation by email.
If you
have paid and don't get a confirmation within 5-6 days, make sure to
bring a
payment proof with you (we don't need a legal document, a print screen
of an
online payment is fine).
- If you show up at the event without prior registration or payment, you
still have the possibility to join the event for 100 CHF, but only if
there
are free seats.
- There is NO refund policy, but you may give your seat to someone else.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(if you scrolled down here just to get the registration link, go back
and
read the mail!)
Let get to the real stuff:

Hi All
I'm not sure someone from hightechbits.com / bighosting.biz is on this
list.
If yes: Could someone of you please contact me offlist ASAP?
Thanks

Hi Guys,
We are importing our servers from Netherland, on a monthly basis or whenever
we need new hardware. Currently we use UPS an DHL, but they are expensive
(aprox. 200-300 USD per order) and take long for each delivery.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a delivery or server
transportation company ?
Thx a lot and warm regards
Mateo
FYI: in case someone is interested.
I've got an request if I could forward this mail to the ML.
this is a one time issue. I'm not really intersted to allow all
recuiting companys to use swinog as a 'job portal'.
