Hey all
A friend just told me that Cybernet told him there is a Switzerlandwide Internet Problem.
Does anybody know something?
Cheers

Hi SWnogers,
I am looking for the presentation from last meeting. It seams that they are
not available at the usual place. Any change here or "work in progress"?

Roque

The equipment is in full working conditions (it is still somewhere in production in a datacenter in Switzerland). In terms of cosmetic appearance, it has a few scratches, nothing terrifying. Multiple units available.

Have a nice weekend!

Heya Swinog
We have business customers with an own mailservers asking us to provide a
backup MX for their mailserver.
Usualy we deny such request, because such a backup MX would bounce all spam
which cannot be relayed, and anyway, the sending server usualy queues the
email usualy about the same amount of time a backup mx would queue it. So we
see not advantage, but a big disatvantage.
Now some of our customers complain that 'all other ISP' offers such services.
So I wanted to know your opinions:
- Why would business customers _need_ their ISP to operate a backup MX for
them?
- Why can you avoid the disatvantage to generate a shitload of bounces when
operating ab backup MX?
- Is it true, that most ISP offer this kind of service?
Mit freundlichen Grüssen
Benoit Panizzon

Hello World!
We have a strange problem with a customer for which we provide secondary DNS
services.
He uses a Microsoft DNS Server.
According to the RFC I found, the underscore character is only valid in SRV
Records. In any other records, this is an invalid character.
Our Customers ADS Server keeps autocreating one records like this:
gc._msdcs.web.EXAMPLE.COM 1800 IN A 192.0.2.44
Bind refuses to accept zone transfers from his server and eventualy the zone
expires on the secondary.
Then the customer deletes the RR, the transfer is successfull, but shortly
afterwards the mentioned A record with underscore is re-created by the ADS and
the problem is back.
Is this some kind of MS DNS bug, or have the DNS RFCs been updated recently to
also allow underscores in other RR and some non bleading edge versions of bind
still use the check from previous rfc?

Hi,
anyone of the bluewin nameservers does resolve domainhost.ch. i didn't
found any reason for this. Switch says that all settings are ok. Any
other nameserver i tried resolves domainhost.ch correctly...
Can someone of bluewin have a look at this issue? Our clients aren't
really happy, that they can't resolve domainnames on our nameservers.

Hi there
Richard, one of the directors of the Shadowserver Foundation, will be in
Berne for a few days. Since that sounds like a great opportunity to meet
Richard and to learn more about Shadowserver (and to have another beer),
I am organising a "Beer on Friday, hellyes (BOFh)" in the evening of
Friday the 31st of August in Berne
If you are interested in joining the fun, please drop me a note. I will
then try to find a place with enough space and let you know when and
where you can find us. If you are quick I also still take suggestions on
where you think we should head to.
I know this is on short notice, but if there is enough interest, we
could do some session(s) during Friday and then together head to the
BOFh. For that we would need a room somewhere in the center of Berne.
Richard could give a presentation introducing Shadowserver and we could
then go from there with what they do, what you have that they need and
what they offer in return. Just an idea...
Looking forward to your feedback and comments.
Cheers,
Adrian
Dear Viktor,
1. I didnt want to sell something, i rather considered it an offer for
collaboration.
2. I only get the digest version of the mailing list, somebody else did
forward your msg to me. Usually I dont even have time to read them.
3. I know i fucked up sending the mail (it went to antispam too btw). No
need for RBL. The problem seems to sit in front of the machine today ;-)
About the sponsoring request: I honestly didnt hv a clue about that one.
But we consider swinog a good thing, and i will definitely look into it.
So thanks for the information, and please accept my apologies in case
anybody feels offended.
Regards
Lukas
