According to preliminary reports the following happened. The 400kV line from France to CERN went down. This caused --as it should be-- the switchover to the 130kV Swiss line within 30". But then the Swiss line went down. The critical UPS (220V) stayed up and equipment powered by it was not affected. The cut brought down a unit of a 48V-system which affected some equipment. Just for information, the computer-centre power substation is for 6 MW of power. Two high-voltage lines come directly into CERN (400kV from France and 130kV from Switzerland). If one of them fails switchover to the other occurs within 30". If both fail, diesel generators come up within 10'. EDF supply failed, and when the CERN switched to the Swiss network, SIG didn't handle the load, I've been said there was a power failure consequently in a wider area of Geneva than just the CERN. CERN is on diesel power and does not know how long it will last. That's all that I know (not directly from CERN-mouth). It seems the PA-Jacket-card support only some PA but not all and not PA-GE :-/ Another funny thing i've read on the Cisco doc ; "NPE-G1 SDRAM memory module is not compatible with the NPE-G2 memory module" On the NPE-G2 there's only one memory slot and it's not the same type of memory. Hi Marcel I didn't have it in use and as the G2 is very new, i'm not sure if someone has it already in its lab for testing. In general you can expect at least twice the performance of an NPE-G1 plus some nice-to-have features like USB port, 3rd PCI bus (I/O Jacket), support for more MEM and SFPs for the GigE ports. Hello all We're looking for some space (somewhere between 1-3 racks) in a datacenter in the Zurich area. It should offer at least the following features: - UPS and Diesel generator to operate during longer power outages - Security such as the possibilty to get a separate cage for our racks - Security in terms of video surveillance and/or security guards - 24x7 access - More than 1 carrier present (best: carrier-neutral) We've already got one particular datacenter, that we like: Interxion. Hi all, at the recent SWINOG meeting, I had the impression that a lot of people have changed their jobs. So I took all the past lists of participants and ran a script over it. So here is the history graph which shows how many SWINOG meeting participants have changed their employer since the last time they attended a SWINOG meeting. Of course there is some fluctuation, but watch for the peak at SWINOG 12... This means that 21% of all non-first-time SWINOG 12 attendees have a new job. Time to move into headhunter business?
