IP6.ARPA Nameserver Change Completed

IP6.ARPA NAMESERVER CHANGE COMPLETED This is a courtesy notification of a change to the nameserver set for the IP6.ARPA zone. There is no expected impact on the functional operation of the DNS due to this change. There are no actions required by DNS server operators or end users. DETAIL The IP6.ARPA zone is used to provide reverse mapping (number to name) for IPv6, as described in RFC 3596. The servers which previously provided authoritative DNS service for the IP6.ARPA zone were as follows: TINNIE.ARIN.NET NS-SEC.RIPE.NET NS2.LACNIC.NET SEC1.APNIC.NET NS.ICANN.ORG As previously advised, processing began on Wednesday 2010-12-01 to change the nameserver set to the following, as described in RFC 5855: A.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ARIN) B.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ICANN) C.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by AfriNIC) D.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by LACNIC) E.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by APNIC) F.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by RIPE NCC) This change is now complete. IPv4 already exhausted at IANA ?

Hello, I noticed on this list no special reaction to the fact that IANA has only 7*/8 left after the allocations on Nov. 30th. So I thought I'd start a thread to share my thoughts on the fact that IPv4 is in reality _already_ exhausted at IANA. If you read IANA policies, you know that among the 7 "/8" (some here will know a /8 as "class A" even though it's incorrect), 5 are reserved (1 per RIR) and will be allocated when they are the only ones left. That leaves IANA with only 2 "/8". But APNIC is _already_ entitled to get these addresses, as per IANA policy (they don't have enough left to hold 9 months at their average alloc rate). And when they will in reality request these addresses, it will trigger the allocation of the "last 5", and, well, the end. The request from APNIC could come tomorrow, or next week, or in 3/4 months. They can do it whenever they want. It doesn't matter, the way the movie ends is already known : APNIC will get 3 more /8, our beloved RIPE will get 1 more, as well as ARIN, LACNIC, and AFRINIC. If you have another understanding of the situation, please share, I didn't find a lot of real analysis on the current situation, mainly refs to potaroo, so I'd be happy to discuss. Now if you have not thought yet about how your network will reach the networks that will be IPv6-only starting middle of next year, well ... I'm sure a lot of people on the list are ready to help :) Guillaume

Anyone else having strange "attachment lost" effects when delivering mails to @bluewin.ch accounts?

Hi folks! It started about 2 weeks ago with one of our clients affected. In the meantime, the cases pile up here more and more. Some mails are completly lost after we deliver them to the bluewin MX, others 'only' loose their attachments. According to swisscom support, none of our mailservers are blocked / blacklisted there. Is anyone else seeing such things? Best wishes, Matthias

No moderation of the list queue

Just a quick note regarding the mailinglist of swinog(a)swinog.ch: There is _no_ moderation. Any message which is stuck in the queue is going straight to /dev/null. Reason: too much spam arriving in the queue, and no time to fish for any legitimate message. If you happen that your message to the list is not distributed (i.e. showing up in the archive http://lists.swinog.ch/public/swinog/), it is discarded. Ensure that your sending parameters are correct and resend. F.

swinog dnsrbl: looking for secondaries

Hello ImproWare AG ist operating the free of charge SWINOG rbl DNS Servers for those zones: dnsrbl.swinog.ch dnswl.swinog.ch uribl.swinog.ch uriwl.swinog.ch Some of the secondary servers offered in the past have stopped operation. I'm looking for one or two new secondary DNS Servers for the zones above to spread the load and provide higher reliability. If we could also put our own specialized rbl zones there, that would be great. spamrbl.imp.ch wormrbl.imp.ch The actual query rate can be seen under: http://rblns.imp.ch/cgi-bin/bindgraph.cgi The server should be able to handle frequent ixfr updates. The zonefiles are not too large (<50MB at the moment). We use bind 9.6.ESV.R1. Please contact me off-list if interrested.
