Does anyone know a good source for replacement fans for the Cisco 2950-T-24?
A "silent" version would be preferred. The fan is 40x20mm and has a 3-pin connector. Yes, I've already checked Digitec but they don't seem to have anything that matches.
Thanks
Try Pusterla at Hohlstrasse. They used to have all kinds of electronic components a couple of years ago. Just walk in with the broken fan and ask for a spare part...

the entrance is kernstrasse 55.. the one which is able to help there is mr. Loosli, the one with the blue jacket, avoid the one with the red jacket, he will propably mention to ask the manufacturer or buy a new router/switch :)

tried distrelec? they have plenty of papst fans which usually are very quiet. perhaps this one will work, even though it's flatter than the one you're looking for?

Normaly, i search the datasheet for the original fan (NMC ?) and look for an equivalent (equal or less Wattage, equal voltage, less dB, equal ore more presure and airflow) at http://www.ebmpapst.com Their express-service for me is
SCHEFFEL elektrotechnischer Vertrieb GmbH ebmpapst-Express-Service-Süd Aischbach 1 70839 Gerlingen Telefon: +49 (0) 71 56 2 83 57 Fax + 49 (0) 71 56 / 4 94 25
For the ancient 35??-XL-AN Series, we used Papst 405 (40x40x20, 5V, 10m**3 18dB(A) (but that ws without tacho, but i strongly believe there is a verison with tacho available, also 12 V Versions...
and they have many of the Papst-fans on stock and deliver fast.
If not found there, you may try farnell .
As a last chance you may try sunon fans, found for example at reichelt.de , better some airflow than nothing; but their usage-period is much shorter.
Hope this was not to much werbung/advertising,
Mit freundlichen Grüßen Kind regards Veuillez agréer mes salutations distinguées Met vriendelijke groet
Jürgen.
Have also a look on www.magnaroute.com where you will find fans for Cisco routers and switches, with the tacho function.
I bought over 40 fans there, shipping is no problem with FedEx/DHL/TNT, you should recevie the goods within a week. Over all a good experience.
Have a nice day

Thanks to all for the replies (public and private) with suggestions.
As the fan was getting really noisy I quickly went to Pusterla at Kernstrasse 55 in Zürich and asked for a fan with the same size and specification. They had one in the backroom storage and it cost 43 Franks. Physical installation wasn't difficult but the connector and wiring had to be rearranged. This wasn't much of a problem as the original fan had a press-fit-wire-cut plug.
Interesting is how the fan is mechanically attached inside the chassis. It is not fixed but held by a couple bent metal flanges from the inner chassis. It always has a bit of room to move/vibrate. A worn down fan then not only rattles by itself but also inside the chassis amplifying the noise. Here a bit of squishy material could fix that. Haven't it yet but will.
Other recommended options include Distrelec, EBM Papst and a couple of offers to buy another used 2950 either to salvage the fan or to replace the switch.
