Dear SwiNOG members
Many thanks to all of you for participating the survey. I have received many very valuable
feedbacks and I guess the outcome may be of interest for the most of you. Before I can
provide you with all the details, I will need some time to put all the data together and
doublecheck my interpretation with the ones that left their contact details. I will
therefore get in contact with them and may ask some more questions ;-)
If there are still members, that have not yet had the time to participate and they have
some feedback for me, please use the new collector link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MPLSvsIPSecVPN_Eng
I closed the other one so I can start with the statistical part...
Many thanks again and kind regards!

Betreff: Survey on IPSEC VPN vs. managed MPLS
Dear SwiNOG members
I'm currently finishing my <FH/Bachelor> degree on IT and economics and I'm
therefore focusing on my bachelor thesis. I'm working in the telecommunications
industries since more than 15 years now, and having the role as "Head of
Telecommunication" in an international IT company.
My thesis is about the acceptance of IP Sec VPN for Intranet transport connections.
I'm following the assumption, that most international companies have already changed,
or would be ready to change their classical leased line services, mostly MPLS based and
managed by service providers, against self-managed IPSec Internet VPN.
I already had some very interesting interviews with CTO's and IT Managers from many
companies. They do believe that the internet and technology today is mature enough. But
when I ask them about their opinion on that topic, they mostly refer to their network
professionals, since they hold a key role on technical decision of such matter.
My goal is to reach as many network engineers, heads of telecommunication, CTO's, etc.
as possible. So pros like you and I responsible for planning, engineering and/or
maintaining their company's intranet.
Therefore I'm kindly asking you, if you could please participate on the following
survey, if the description above applies to you:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MPLSvsIPSec
I very much appreciate your help and contribution!
It is planned to present the results and outcome on SwiNOG#25 in Bern.
Many thanks for your feedback and support!
