well, i think RSS is quite a standard and there are possibilities to provide the swinog mailinglist also as RSS feed.. but anyway, a forum/blog is the wrong way... mail should be still the way of communication for swinog members ,-)

think to install an RSS Client is in different offices is a Problem. If we make a change is a Forum (or new called Blogg) the beter idea. But you must check what is in the future the best way. I think some people uesing Handshields or Mobiles for reading the list... I don't konw if in future are RSS Reader avable for this products.

Hoi.

Whom does the RSS feed serve the most? Surely not the active part of the SwiNOG-Community. Those guys can just as well read the mails and answer to random topics they feel the need to.
RSS does not give you that possibility, you're readonly. A perfect excuse to just consume and give nothing back (information that is). I don't like that idea.
but anyway, a forum/blog is the wrong way... mail should be still the way of communication for swinog members ,-)
Mail is as easy and flexible that it's even readable on a cell phone or an old-fart PDA. Just because some of you have a shiny new Ogo or Mulberry (whatchamacallit?) does not mean everyone wants to replace his Palm IIIx now.
Finally, HTML-Mails with Flash and JavaScript do go the same way, so don't even think about coming up with THAT!

Frankly, ICMP is also a standard. Shall we communicate using icmpchat? ( http://icmpchat.sourceforge.net/ )

just to help : easy and do not ask for changing the existant :-)
----------------------------------- convert email to RSS: why and how source: http://drexel-coas-elearning.blogspot.com/2005/07/convert-email-to-rss-why-a nd-how.html
why: 1) It would be nice to consolidate information feeds from mailing lists to RSS feeds 2) Information search sites often supply email alerts for queries but not RSS yet 3) Convert comments on blogs posts to RSS so anyone can subscribe to the comments posted update: it looks like Blogger does not accept an email address to blogger.com so this doesn't work (at least for Blogger accounts)
how: 1) set up a Blogger account 2) under settings/email/mail-to-blogger create a new email address 3) send your email lists or email alerts to this new email address 4) subscribe to the atom feed automatically provided by Blogger for any blogs. For readers like Bloglines that are good at autodetecting feed sources just pasting the blog url is sufficient to add that feed
Here are some variations: 5) Create a Feedburner account that will convert the Blogger Atom feed into RSS and will provide stats of how many subscribers you have to your new feed 6) under settings/email/ in blogger put the same email you did for mail-to-blogger in "blog send address". This will basically post new comments back as new posts in the same blog. This is good because it prevents you to have to create a new Blogger account but you will have to monitor more closely what kind of posts are getting submitted and delete if necessary.
----------------- MailBucket MailBucket is an experiment in alternative methods of email management. For now its only feature is a public email-to-RSS gateway: forward your email to slurp@mailbucket.org and have your news reader pick it up at mailbucket.org/slurp.xml (where you choose slurp, having checked that it's not already in use). http://www.mailbucket.org/
--------- MailFeed MailFeed is a PHP script that checks a POP3, IMAP, or NNTP mailbox on demand and returns an RSS feed containing the messages in the mailbox. This is great if you run a controversial web site that gets tons of hate mail, because now posting it to make fun of people is like, no hassle at all. http://wiki.wonko.com/software/mailfeed/

Hi
convert email to RSS: why and how
Why do we need that? RSS is a unidirectional, read-only, non-threaded (as in "message-threads") medium. RSS is anonymous, whereas Swinog is a community und subscribing to the mailing list makes you a member. RSS offers less features with less comfort. RSS is a fuzzy standard (use Atom instead!). So could we just stop the discussion? The only advantage I could see is that we won't get autoresponder messages anymore (until someone invents RSS autoresponders, of course..).
