hi ruedi
What do you think of reading this mailing list as RSS feed? Good/bad idea?
bad.
how do you answer to posts? ,-) for me RSS is not a solution for participating in a mailinglist. if you want to have read only access, it may be an alternative... so you still need the mails ;-)
I personally would very much favour this approach for the following reasons:
- My inbox remains emptier/smaller
<ironic> yes, you're right, we've got about 654'465'108 mails a year on this mailinglist ;-) makes sense ,-) </ironic>
- No problems with auto replys which flood the whole list
well, as i said: mail will remain, so auto reply's will remain ...
- Only headers get downloaded automatically. This saves bandwidth.
i dont know, but i think bandwidth is not really a problem with that mailinglist, right? we're not (yet) at nanog's size ,)
So, dear administrator, why not give it a try? Google, for example, recommends this software on the server side: http://jmason.org/software/scripts/mailman-archive-to-rss.txt
i think you're gladly invited to provide an RSS feed for those people which cannot live without it ;-)
cheers
-steven
think to install an RSS Client is in different offices is a Problem. If we make a change is a Forum (or new called Blogg) the beter idea. But you must check what is in the future the best way. I think some people uesing Handshields or Mobiles for reading the list... I don't konw if in future are RSS Reader avable for this products.

Someone wants to create a web forum. :-P
Replacing a mailinglist by a forum is like putting up an "Under Construction" sign on your website.
And I want a webcounter with that forum! =:-)

No replace, but there are forums which can act as a gateway to mailing-lists, like Phorum using Phorummail, and yes Phorum can provide an RSS feed.
And then there's GMANE of course, which does not only a web-based archive and RSS but also an NNTP gateway, for those wanting to use their nice threading News-Reader with killfiles...

It needs a Flash interface of course, with live XML updates of the articles. SOAP everywhere. You must see other people typing.
And it must blink.

It has to be enterprise ready [1], otherwise I'm not going to use it!

what about simply replacing the mailing list by a blog? ;-) We could call it "swinog 2.0"... Then we would have rss as wished by Ruedi, anti-spam and anti-autoresponder captcha protection, etc.
But it would require moderators for the news topics...
Have a nice (!= cold & rainy) day :) Olivier

What about installing UNIX/procmail ? :)
