Hello all,
First of all, I'm not to well known on this list although I'm reading it for some time now. For this I probably shouldn't be ranting arround here. But one thing I keep *wondering* and annoying about is the fact that the swiss networking elite seems not to be able to configure their mailers and mail facilities to correctly and politely interfer with a mailinglist.
OK, its requires skills and of course some technical magic to configure something as complex as a mailclient correctly. But for all those who are unwilling or unable to fullfill this job on their own there *is* in fact a solution to this problem. It is (astoundingly enough) possible to use more than one email account for exchangeing electronic mail.
So I dare to kindly ask those unable to go without something evil like an *autoresponder* to switch their mailinglist subscriptions to another address where they do not need to inform the senders about their holidays?
For those having read this far: Thank you. To all atoresponders: Shut up!
cheers, Michi
(don't miss the ;) despite all wigging)

there's a short answer: there aren't just elite guy on this list - some are journalists, some spys, some ... ;-)

And a good performance test for the listserver. Of course, set reply-to to the list itself. Beats any tv show!

Hello, We have received new factures from Switch... All the Periodes in this Facture is from January 1st till Dezember 31. We must also pay the Accounts from January, which we have booked at April.... Last Year we have received a facture in January for the January registred Domanis, and in April for April registred Domains...
With the new facture Methode we must pay for some domains 4 mouths more.
Has other ISP the same problem? by the Invoces?
Greetings Xaver

I have one personal domain that is from Mai and another one from April, no invoices for either one, so far.
Truth to be told, the Switch fee's are pure rip off compared to the big registries. But then again, nearly everything in Switzerland falls into that category...

Do you mean Switch? They can do that, you find the procedure here: https://nic.switch.ch/reg/staticHtmlView.action;?site=services/bulk&navK... nfo.support.faq.technical
Did that already many times.

Hi Reto!
We also did it in the past, but NOW switch has NO tool to handle that. :-( I've been told last week, that the bulk-update-tool in fact is planned for 2006. We had to manually update loooads of domains manually last week.
Best wishes, Matthias

News for me. I was talking to Ms. Brandenberger on 10. Oktober and was anouncing some bulk updates for mid of november. She told me just to contact a different person as she has longer holidays.
But if you did it manually, the owner of the domain needed to confirm? The nice thing about the bulk updates was to bypass the confirmation from the owner using the 'Enthaftungserklärung'.
Since the new website of nic.ch we have a lot of clients which like to register nameservers instead of changeing the nameserver of the domain. Another one has registered the hosts as nameservers, because switch does no dns check anymore :-)
Thanks, Reto

I've also noticed that the whois service is rate-limited now. Even only a few successive whois-requests will lock you out for an indefinite amout of time. Whitelisting an IP is not possible, according to their helpdesk. The only solution is to use the "whois-is"-service, which only gives information on the availability of a domain. Oh well, I guess all the new features need some getting used to. You need to give them some credit for the new website, though, I think it looks very pretty.

No man, that's part of the idea. That way you always know, who's on holiday, just in case you have a problem with their network or some such! One could automate this by sending a ping-mail once a day and generate a nice website for the everybody. =:-)
For those having read this far: Thank you. To all atoresponders: Shut up!
Right. Guys, get hold of that computer. Just because its a problem in an upper layer does not mean one can ignore it.

You don't need multiple mail accounts. There is "Precedence: {bulk|list}" for a reason. Have a look into your wiki (or procmailex(5) for everyone else), there's an autoresponder which does not reply to properly configured mailing lists.
