Bluewin SMTP Policy

Dear Swinog members Until now, we provided an authenticated smtp-server for our customers and a separate "open" smtp-server for customers with email-adresses from other providers. We would like to shut down the relaying server and have the customers use the smtp-servers from their mail-provider (gmx, gmail, bluewin etc.). Now we found out that bluewin doesn't allow authenticated smtp-relay from users outside their ip-range, so all our customers with bluewin-mailadresses would have no smtp-server available. I am sure that some of you had the same issue and would be interested how other (small) isp's have resolved this problem. Thank you, Roger Schmid

Dear SwiNOG Colleagues, Japan Network Operators' Group (JANOG) is a forum for network operators in Japan and has been active since 1997. JANOG's official language is Japanese, with biannual meetings in January and July as well as its mailing list janog[at]janog.gr.jp . JANOG has received numerous requests to make forum discussions available to non Japanese speakers, as discussion topics in a country with very high penetration ratio of broadband access, especially FTTH, would be something different from others and it is felt that other NOG groups could benefit if JANOG's discussion were more widely shared. JANOG volunteer members have been working together recently to make JANOG content available in English in order that non Japanese speakers can share it. This effort is going on through Wiki on JANOG Server and available content is still very limited, however we think that we have reached the initial stage to have it released with a minimum set of content. We are really delighted to announce that the JANOG English website is now available from: http://www.janog.gr.jp/en/ Please visit this site to see what is going on in JANOG. What we have noticed was not a total outage, but a severe Cybernet outage (packet loss, rerouting, routing loops, etc.). Website of Cybernet (which means the redirection host) was not available from several locations.. Also customer complaints - they could only reach part of the Internet via ADSL.. massive udp "attacks" from 67.228.4.81

Hi everybody, is there anyone else expecting massive UDP (mostly port 53) traffic from 67.228.4.81? Destinations are (possibly random chosen) ip address out of our AS3915. see attached netflow graph. We've now blocked the ip address and got over 3.7 million blocks within 10 minutes. I just wrote this issue to the corresponding abuse (abuse(a)subxtreme.net) , a provider in Brazil as i know so far. IPv6 for all of our customer webhosting?

Hi SwiNOGers, as you know im trying to get ipv6 connectivity for our backbone and hosting stuff. Know i got the following question: is it wise to add a v6 host record for all domains pointing to the webhostings? www.blah.li. IN A 88.82.97.x www.blah.li. IN AAAA 2a02:380:xxxx::x its not a problem to do dual stack ipv6 with my linux webhosting system, but all ipv4 users have to wait for the ipv6 timeout when trying to reach an ipv6 enabled website, right? is there a way to control this timeout? thanks and best regards Marco

Sixy.ch: directory of IPv6 enabled web sites

Hello, now that IPv6 is slowly gaining hype factor again, I noticed that there are few places to find content that is accessible via IPv6. In an attempt to change that, I launched <http://sixy.ch>, a directory of IPv6 enabled web sites. It's currently manually compiled (a random selection of sites is in the database now), but anyone can add new sites (please feel free - IPv6 capability is checked automatically etc.). I've experimented with a crawler, but that tends to generate a lot of junk (empty/test/mirror sites, no decent description/tags etc.). So the next time you find yourself at a geeky event where they turn off IPv4 access for a while (maybe we should do that at SwiNOG 17, just to be hip), you know where to start. Ideas for future improvement: - availability statistics - popularity rankings (# of hits) - live traceroute, better whois etc. IPv6 enabled web sites are sixy! ;) Cheers, Manuel

hi SwiNOG Does anyone know what has happened to Interxion today? This article doesn't say verys much.
