feedback on pppoe needed

hi swinog members we have the need to rollout a pppoe setup on our dsl colocations where static ip with mtu 1500 is actually in place. as i know many postings around the world regarding pppoe mtu problems and advices to customers to reduce mtu on their clients down to 1492, i wanted to ask for a feedback from you if you all have pppoe with 1500 (=1492) in place or someone uses pppoe with 1508 from cpe to pppoe-server? if you use 1500: are the mentioned problems with websites (eg: gmx) or ipsec setups still an issue ? thanx and best regards from austria to our neighbors bernd spiess / happynet.at / i3b.at

housing w/ hardware-based load balancer?

Good afternoon, For a customer I'm looking for a hardware-based load balancer, or an ISP owning and renting this kind of HW. There would be about N webservers (N=2 at the moment, but should grow to 4-5) running a php application, and the http (and https) requests from a single client should always be redirected to the same webserver (for some session management reasons etc.), unless the webserver is down for maintenance of course. I already suggested to do that with a software-based LB (with pound for example), but the customer would still like to have some offers from HW-based solutions, so that's why I'm asking here. You're welcome to forward this request to your own company commercials, if you have some :) The whole needs a 1/3 rack, if possible in Zürich, and bandwith is currently of 3Mbit, with peaks during November/December (10-15Mbit then). Hallo zusammen, Sorry das ich dieses Thema auf Deutsch schreibe. Aber ich denke 1. ist es sicherer 2. ist es eher kompliziert. Wir haben diverse Kunden die Foren haben. Vor allem PHPBB. Bei den Foren werden in letzter Zeit häufiger Einträge gemacht die dann für Medizinische Hilfsmittel die in der Schweiz Rezeptpflichtig sind geworben. Da wir die Bereiche Sperren wollen, welche diese Werbung machen. Hab ich mich ein wenig über die Logfiles dieser Kunden hergemacht. Dabei kam heraus das der grösste Teil aus USA dann ein par aus Russland und komischerweise eines von einem Schweizer Provider (also nicht einen der grossen 3) kommen. Aber eine andere Seltsamkeit ist mir aufgefallen, kurz bevor sich ein solche User einträgt haben wir zugriffe vom Crawler crawler4.irl.cs.tamu.edu . Dieser scheint in einer Texikanischen Universität zu befinden. Das komische an dem Crawler ist das er sich vor allem auf im Forum und dort vor allem den Mitgliederbereich crawlt. Das finde ich etwas komisch... Googel live etc. hab ich auch mal angeschaut. Diese crawlen überall rum. Deshalb ist meine Vermutung da das der was mit den Einträgen zu tun hat. Könnte das sein.
