I think that server (coloured) lists are but an easy way out for for those who either aren't willing or able to do spam mail feature analysis. Spam is spam, even when it comes from a respectable server that has been temporarily compromised.
All the up-and-coming premium spam services shy away from them, which is correct and proper. Maybe shying away from ISPs that use them would be correct and proper as well.
