DENOG 2 - Call for Participation and Papers The second meeting of the German Network Operators Group (DENOG) will be held in Frankfurt, Germany on the 4th of November 2010. We are pleased to hereby invite applications for presentations or lightning talks to be held at this event. General Information =================== DENOG is a community for professionals within Germany who are operating, designing or researching the Internet. It provides a technical forum where those working on, with and for the Internet can come together to solve problems with every aspect of their (net)work. The meeting is designed to provide an opportunity for the exchange of information among network operators, engineers, researchers and other professionals close to the network community. Meeting Countdown ================= What When ------------------------------------------------------ Publication of Call for Papers May 11th, 2010 Deadline for all submissions September 15th, 2010 Beginning of Registration Period End of August, 2010 Publication of final programme End of September, 2010 Deadline for receipt of final slides October 24th, 2010 Meeting Day November 4th, 2010 Topics for Presentations/Talks ============================== The day will be divided into several sessions. The number and length of presentations per session is not fixed, although due to time constraints we would prefer the length of the presentations to be between 10 to 30 minutes. However proposals for longer/shorter presentations or presentations whose subject falls outside of the topics below are also welcome; please do not hesitate to submit them. Lightning Talks --------------- In addition to the topics mentioned below we will reserve slots for lightning talks, which consist of a few slides and will not last longer than 5 minutes. Lightning talks can be submitted until October 29th, with the deadline for submission of the corresponding slides being November 3rd. Topic #1: Power Efficiency in Networks --------------------------------------- For operators of networks and data centres of any size power efficiency has become more important. Servers and network gear with high power consumption are expensive because of high operating and cooling power costs; also in many places supplying more power into the location is no longer possible. How are you dealing with power problems in your environment? How do you efficiently cool a rack/a room/a datacenter? Can a migration to VoIP help you save power? Topic #2: Social Networks, Cloud Services and Information Security ------------------------------------------------------------------ Social Networks are an essential working tool for networkers and cloud services are also becoming increasingly popular. The security of your information and data in these networks is a crucial aspect which we want to discuss in this session. Topic #3: Network Neutrality ---------------------------- In the US, Network Neutrality has been a subject of controversy and debate. Is an ISP allowed to sell "Internet access" which only offers access to a subset of the whole Internet? Is an ISP allowed to prioritise video streams from Company A while imposing a higher delay to video streams from Company B? In Germany Network Neutrality is mainly an issue for mobile networks and not extensively discussed thus far. But what kind of problems will an upcoming debate on Network Neutrality bring to German ISPs and is there a good way to address these problems? Topic #4: Peering ------------------ Everything about your peering experience. Why are you doing it? How are you doing it? Have you written any useful tools which others might find interesting? Topic #5: ISP BOF ----------------- "All things ISP". From Network/SLA Management (for or against it), abuse handling and log systems to data centre layout and planning (including power and cooling), everything that is interesting to you as an ISP can be presented or discussed within this topic. Language of Slides and Talks ============================ To appeal to an international audience we ask you to produce your slides in English, but the spoken language of the presentation itself can be either German or English. Submission Guidelines ===================== All submissions must have a strong technical bias and must not be solely promotional for your employer. Please remember that your presentations should be suitable for a target audience of technicians from varied backgrounds, working for companies whose sizes may vary considerably. To submit a proposal for a presentation, we request that you provide the following information as plain text or PDF format to <denog-pc(a)denog.de>: * the name of the presenter (and if applicable your affiliation) * a working email address * the name and number of the topic which will contain the presentation * the title of the presentation * its expected length (in minutes) * the preferred spoken language for the presentation * a short abstract of the presentation (not more than 200 words) We also welcome suggestions for specific presentations which you feel would be valuable to the DENOG community. IANA DNSSEC Testbed to be Decommissioned

Colleagues, ICANN has operated the IANA DNSSEC testbed, serving non-production, signed versions of the root, ARPA, IN-ADDR.ARPA, IP6.ARPA, IRIS.ARPA, URN.ARPA, and INT zones for several years. Following the recent completion of DNSSEC deployment in the root zone, this testbed is scheduled to be decommissioned. For more details on the IANA DNSSEC testbed, see <https://ns.iana.org/dnssec/>. For more details on DNSSEC deployment in the Root Zone, see <http://www.root-dnssec.org>. At the time that the service is decommissioned, the nameserver bound to NS.IANA.ORG (208.77.188.32, 2620:0:2d0:1::32) will be shut down and DNS queries to NS.IANA.ORG will fail with ICMP type 3 code 3 (Destination Unreachable, Port Unreachable). We suggest that anybody using the DNSSEC testbed for anything resembling production services make plans to stop doing so at their earliest convenience. A l'été 2001, lors d'un entretient d'embauche pour la ville de Lausanne, un RH (ci-après identifié GADLU) me parle de services secrets. Il positive le domaine, m'attire à accepter de faire partie de la cellule RE-NATO. j'ai testé pour vous, ils sont, sans exagération aucune, assimilables à des DANGERS PUBLICS. _____________________________________________________________________ SERVICES SECRETS DANS LES TELECOMS ASSIMILABLES A DES DANGERS PUBLICS _____________________________________________________________________ J’ai un vécu plutôt singulier dans ce domaine professionnel : quelques semaines avant de travailler entre autre avec RE-NATO à la création de la SSI INC. sàrl, on m’empoisonne à l’aide d’une substance spécifique, probablement développée par les services secrets tchèques dans les années 1970, ayant un puissant effet sur mon rythme cardiaque, partant au plafond, soit 200-210 chez moi, pendant quelques dizaines de minutes, pour rester aux alentours de 180 pendant plusieurs heures. C’était le 19 ou 20 août 2002. Une démonstration de type réseau humain sécuritaire avait lieu autour de moi depuis quelques mois. Celle-ci durera encore la bagatelle de trois ans. Durant mes études d’ingénieur en télécommunication à ce qui est aujourd’hui l’HEIG-VD, probablement en 1995 ou 1996, un professeur, MJATS, ex-employé de Siemens, nous parle du protocole GSM. Ce dernier nous fait part de données intéressantes propre à l’aspect de synchronisation du protocole, exploitables pour géolocalisation de l’abonné si quelques recoupements de bases de données étaient effectués. Quelques semaines ou mois plus tard, celui-ci sera victime d’une crise cardiaque. A 45-48 ans, adepte de grimpe en montagne, de cols des 4000m. Selon une convesation avec GADLU, RH au Service électrique de la Ville de Lausanne, *conversation dans laquelle il y aura eût à boire et à manger*, RE-NATO aurait été réinscrit de la filière informatique à la filière télécoms à l’HEIG-VD, durant l’été 1993, été de nos écoles de recrues respectives. Le père de RE-NATO est instructeur à l’armée suisse, retraité. Plus récemment, l’ex-amis de ma soeur semble avoir été "réseauté" par bouche à oreille aﬁn de lui faire faire des scènes de ménages quelques peu théatralisées. But : me faire peur. Dans le même laps de temps, quelques appels téléphoniques que je passe à un amis ne déclencheront pas la sonnerie de son côté, par contre j’entendrai à l’appareil l’environnement sonore autour de cette amis. Autre gadget sécuritaire concocté par le team RE-NATO semble-t-il : un moyen d’établir une conversation téléphonique à sens unique, sans déclencher la sonnerie. Outil d’espionnage auquel j’aurait du adhérer aﬁn de surveiller le couple de ma soeur et son ex-amis, par ce biais adhérer aux métohdes de la cellule RE-NATO. Il y eut énormément de douleurs chez moi durant les 5.5 années ayant suivi l’empoisonnement, probablement plus encore chez MJATS. La notion de danger public concernant RE-NATO et ses sbires n’est de loin pas une exagération. * Dans mon cas, l’empoisonnement est probablement un préalable visant à me constituer un dossier psychiatrique de paranoïaque en début de démonstration du team des sécuritaires zélés, d’avoir de leur côté de quoi me décrédibiliser dans cette affaire au cas ou j’ouvrais "trop" les yeux sur leurs activités. * En annexe le log de la démonstration du team RE-NATO au ﬁl des années, dont ont m’a volé le document source à l’été 2009. Hi all, This morning I got a mail from switch, our official swiss dns registry. I remember that switch itself made years ago some policies to not use the dns root .ch for advertising. And unfortunatly that's exactly what happens here, IMHO this mail advertises nothing else than 'switch plus' and their services. Unfortunatly the services from switchplus are NOT even hosted in switzerland, they are reselled from germany. I've visited recently the switch webpage, and found in the middle on the page a banner to switch plus. This is very problematic since a lot of new people will follow this link and buy packages. All other swiss companies don't have this opportunity to advertize. Let's take another example. You all know the cantonal car-inspection MFK. For me this is like the MFK would offer now car repair, car-cleaning services at the time you have the car in inspection. What does an average customer then says to himself? 'Great, that's all from one place, from one hand, that's a deal, even if it is the same price as before.' At the end, the local dealers have to close their business, because they haven't the same rights the government and their institutions has. Finally we all loose, if lot of ISPs and hosters have to close their doors because webhosting and mailhosting is not able to finance the ADSL business anymore. Switch, you have an offical mission from BAKOM, please only do what you should do, and nothing else. Thank you ! Root Zone DNSSEC Deployment Technical Status Update 2010-07-14 This is the eleventh of a series of technical status updates intended to inform a technical audience on progress in signing the root zone of the DNS. If you have feedback for us, please send it to rootsign(a)icann.org. KSK CEREMONY 2 COMPLETE The second KSK ceremony for the root zone was completed this week in El Segundo, CA, USA. The Ceremony Administrator was Mehmet Akcin. The second production Key Signing Request (KSR) generated by VeriSign has now been processed by ICANN using the root zone KSK generated in KSK Ceremony 1, and the resulting Signed Key Response (SKR) has been accepted by VeriSign. This SKR contains signatures for Q4 2010, for use between 2010-10-01 and 2010-12-31. Audit materials relating to both the first and second ceremonies will be published today at <http://www.iana.org/dnssec/>. FULL PRODUCTION SIGNED ROOT ZONE The transition from Deliberately-Unvalidatable Root Zone (DURZ) to production signed root zone is scheduled take place on 2010-07-15 within a maintenance window which begins at 1930 UTC and ends at 2330 UTC. This is the usual window for the generation and distribution of root zones with SOA serials ending in 01. Hi, in my opinion, we should refer to the domain registry as NIC/CH (or nic.ch) It shouldn't be named SWITCH. SWITCH can operate them as long as they have the mission from the OFCOM/BAKOM (expires 2014?). But the name should be NIC/CH and no mention of any SWITCH services should be made with relation to NIC/CH. (remember when non SWITCH customer couldn't get ch. domains ?)

I don't think so in the case of Switch, Billag and any other monopol organisation with an official mission from switzerland. Btw ... AFAIK the WEKO is currently investigating this issue. -- Martin

Hello, This is possible, that this are the same persons. Any Person could work or own different companies... We have in our "Nationalrat" different men and women which are in different companies.(profit and /or no profit) The only problem which ich see is when a nonprofit office make adverstisement for a profit office. But i think this is leagal here in switerland. Root Zone DNSSEC Deployment Technical Status Update 2010-07-10 This is the tenth of a series of technical status updates intended to inform a technical audience on progress in signing the root zone of the DNS. RESOURCES Details of the project, including documentation published to date, can be found at <http://www.root-dnssec.org/>. We'd like to hear from you. If you have feedback for us, please send it to rootsign(a)icann.org. KSK CEREMONY 2 The second KSK ceremony for the root zone will take place in El Segundo, CA, USA on Monday 2010-07-12. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1300 local time (2000 UTC) and is expected to end by 1900 local time (0200 UTC). Video from Ceremony 2 will be recorded for audit purposes, as with Ceremony 1. Video and associated audit materials will be published before the signed root enters full production on 2010-07-15. Details will be circulated before that date. ICANN will operate a separate camera whose video will not be retained for audit purposes, but which will instead be streamed live in order to provide remote observers an opportunity to watch the ceremony. The live stream will be provided on a best-effort basis. The live video stream will be available at: http://dns.icann.org/ksk/stream/ FULL PRODUCTION SIGNED ROOT ZONE The transition from Deliberately-Unvalidatable Root Zone (DURZ) to production signed root zone will take place on 2010-07-15. Trust anchor publication, according to draft-icann-dnssec-trust-anchor-00 will take place after the maintenance window closes, once a final set of tests have been completed by ICANN and the results have been found to be positive. FTP ACCESS TO SIGNED ZONE FILES Following the transition on 2010-07-15 the unsigned root and ARPA zone files published at ftp://rs.internic.net/domain/ ftp://ftp.internic.net/domain/ will be replaced by signed zone files. That is, the zone files retrieved from both FTP servers will contain DNSSEC data, and will hence faithfully represent the zones being served by root servers.
